The Maine Coon is a large domesticated cat breed. It is one of the oldest natural breeds in North America. The breed originated in the U.S. state of Maine, however, despite a lot of rumours of where they came from, this is still a mystery.

Maine Coons cat have medium-long fur which is smooth to the touch. They have a prominent ruff along its chest, a strong jawline, square muzzle and a rectangular body shape with a tail that is approximately the same length of the body!
(Wow thats a long tail!)
Maine coons are often complimented on their square muzzles and high set ears - and yes they do get very big! Their size can range between 4kg - 12kg depending on their lines!

Maine coons are said to be the ' Golden Retriever ' of the cat world. Now, if you've ever had a golden retriever you will probably know this means they want to be with you a lot of the time, love cuddles, family time and some of them even love water!
They are very vocal cats and are not suited to be left home alone for 8 hours a day unlike most cats and the Maine Coon is an indoor cat based on its trusting temperament, docile nature and they can also be stolen!

Ultimately if you are looking for a new companion, I may be biased but you can't get any better than a Maine Coon.
